Physical therapy (PT) is used in the management of numerous medical conditions.1 However, variation in private payer rates can contribute to high out-of-pocket costs, leading some patients to underuse or forgo PT and potentially contributing to suboptimal rehabilitation outcomes.2 Therefore, we evaluated commercial payer–negotiated rates for outpatient PT services at US hospitals, including how rates compared with cash prices, variation within and between hospitals, and prices for rural hospitals.
