Crohn’s disease (CD) is incurable, with high postoperative recurrence rates even after resection.1 Mesenteric fat, nerves, and lymphatics are important in the pathobiology and progression of CD.2,3 The multicenter randomized Mesenteric Excision Surgery or Conservative Limited Resection in Crohn’s Disease (MESOCOLIC) trial aimed to compare outcomes of extensive mesenteric excision (EME) vs limited mesenteric excision (LME) in patients with CD (ClinicalTrials.gov ID: NCT03769922).
