Diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) is a highly aggressive, invasive, and fatal brainstem tumor that originates in the pons. It affects children between 5 and 10 years of age, with a median age at diagnosis of 7 years, and accounts for approximately 10% to 20% of pediatric central nervous system tumors.1,2 These tumors typically infiltrate the brainstem, thereby complicating surgical resection, and carry an extremely poor prognosis with a median survival of less than 1 year from diagnosis, and less than 10% survival at 2 years.2
