デンマークで2025年秋から妊婦を対象にRSウイルス（RSV）ワクチン接種が始まり、2025/26年のRSV流行期に、生後0～5か月児のRSV関連入院が過去3シーズン平均の1,128人から296人へと75％減少した。研究はコペンハーゲン大学とノースシェランズ病院が国の監視データを解析したもので、対象期間は2025年10月～2026年4月。対象となる妊婦の72％が初年度に接種を受けた。研究者は、ワクチン接種と入院減少との直接的な因果関係は本研究だけでは証明できず、感染伝播や検査状況など他の要因も影響した可能性を指摘する。一方、ベルギー、スペイン、オランダ、フランス、英国などの導入国でも同様の傾向が確認されており、乳児の重症RSV疾患を大幅に減らせる可能性が示された。

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) remains a leading cause of hospitalisation among infants worldwide, with the highest burden consistently observed during the first months of life. In temperate settings such as Denmark, RSV epidemics follow a highly regular seasonal pattern, a stability that re-emerged after the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.1 During the 2025-26 season RSV surveillance data from Denmark show a clear deviation from the expected epidemic curve (Fig. 1).
